 🏀The league is  designed for those children currently entering Kindergarten - 2nd Grade.   You do NOT  have to be an Avon Lake resident to participate.

League runs for four (4) weeks. Classes consist of a 30-minute practice followed by a 30-minute game.

While using age appropriate equipment, children will learn the following skills through repetition and teamwork:

Basketball Basics
Coordination
Cooperation
Teamwork
Watching the Ball
Taking Turns

Following Directions

Note: Two Parent volunteers per team are needed.
Equipment: For this age group, safety and learning comes first! For  Basketball League we will use mini basketballs and will have hoops that adjust 3 ½ to 8ft.  If coaches agree, hoops will be set at the 8ft mark.  These will be weighted down with 25 – 50lbs salt bags  please do not let any of your children attempt to dunk, pull on the next and lean on the hoop standard..

Coaches Responsibilities:

 Those parents who can volunteer and help coach, Thank You.  Coaches will work  along side my staff.   During Basketball  Stations you will assist in moving your team from station to station and assist your team at each drill station.

Volunteer Coaches/Rules:

 Coach’s responsibilities Include;

🏀30 min practice followed by a 30min game.

🏀Making sure each child has an opportunity to bring the ball up

🏀Players stay with their assigned player. (No double teams)

🏀 NO STEALING

🏀Rotating players/equal playing time

🏀No fast breaks

🏀Teach passing and dribbling

🏀Have FUN

🏀🏀 We will be using an Intermediate Size Basketball (27.5).

My staff and I always coach on the court  when we practice/play. So during this time things maybe slowed down a bit, but we want to start coaching your child on the spot. At the end of the game, each team will line up and congratulate the other team by saying "Good Game".

**Homework assigned – The children will receive a hand stamp, than be asked to go to their parents, grandparents etc. after “Huddle Time” and give them a HUG, KISS and say THANK YOU for bringing them.  If they forget, please send them back to see a coach.

For the safety of all the children participating;

·      Players should carry their shoes into facility and change in the hallway before entering the gym. This will prevent water and dirt from getting onto the basketball playing surface so players don’t trip and fall.

·      Families are asked NOT to bring basketballs with them to class. (Balls will be provided).

·      Please make sure to assist in keeping the facilities cleaner than when you leave them!

·      Participants need to be supervised at all times.

·      At the end of your game or practice, please pick up any lost and found and place it in the lost and found box in the MPR.

·      All water bottles need to stay outside of the gym or MPR.

·      If one of your players spills something, please make the coaches aware.

·      All food and drink should stay in the commons area or outside of the gym.

As all of you are taking such great pictures and videos with your cameras/phones, if you would be willing to share them by tagging me (Craig Collins) or post them to the Preschool Sports FB page.  OR if you could hash tag "#Preschoolsports” I would appreciate it. Thanks for sharing!
